Dear Parents and Carers
Here are some suggestions from your child’s teacher of activities to help you keep your children occupied during the day. Please remember that they are indeed only suggestions and we do not want you to feel pressured in any way to turn your home into a home school. Do what works for you and your family and let us worry about getting your children quickly back up to speed when everything returns to normal. If you do only one thing, it would be best to keep your child reading. Reading to them, listening to them read and talking about what’s been read will be hugely beneficial. Beyond that, do what is easy, stress free and comfortable for you and your family.
Reading
We encourage you to read every day for 10 minutes to an adult at home. This week you could…
• Take time to share a book together (you can read/ listen to an audiobook or watch a story online together)
• In the absence of reading books, you could access books similar to the ones you bring home
www.oxfordowl.co.uk • Complete the comprehension Ninja booklet we provided.
Writing
We are continuing our learning on dragons so this week you could…
• Use your imagination to become a dragon. Tell someone the story of where you live, what your super powers are and how you feel.
• Draw a dragon and label using descriptive vocabulary.
• Write a story about your dragon.
• Draw and describe the other characters in your story using descriptive language.
Spelling
We use the National Curriculum Year 1 & 2 spelling lists to set spellings for practice. So this week you could…
• Use the spelling lists included in your home learning packs to practice the words and write them in sentences.
• Play scrabble together or other games which encourage spelling words.
Maths
To continue using your maths fractions learning this week you could:
• Look at objects around your house and describe how they have been divided.
• Draw around objects and divide them into fractions (1/2, ¼, 1/3, 2/3, ¾)
Other
You could also…
• have fun, play games, build dens, be active but stay safe.
• Build, construct, paint, cook, draw and have fun together.
• design and make the home for a dragon using everyday materials. Take a photo and email it to us.
Thank you for your support and stay safe.
