Remote Learning

Remote Learning

This information is intended to provide clarity about what to expect from remote education if your child is required to remain at home.

How will my child access remote learning?

Our remote learning is delivered through the Google Classroom Platform. Each child has their own login to access the learning their class teacher has set for them to complete each day.

What is the expectation for how long we should spend on remote learning?

The Department for Education has set the following guidance: -

The amount of remote education provided should be, as a minimum:

  • Key Stage 1: 3 hours a day on average, with less for younger children
  • Key Stage 2: 4 hours a day

A suggested timetable for the week will be posted in the class ‘Stream’ (in Google Classroom.) We understand that every family is different so please feel free to adjust when tasks are completed to suit your individual circumstances.

What will the work be like and how will I support my child?

The learning tasks will be in a variety of different formats that may include some or all of the following: -

  • Narrated lesson slides in video format
  • Links to videos/ presentations from reputable sites and sources such as BBC Bitesize
  • Documents with tasks to complete and ‘Turn in’ to the teacher
  • Quizzes to complete online through Google Classroom
  • Get Epic digital reading books
  • Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes
  • Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Each task will have instructions from the class teacher to guide and support you.

How will the teacher check my child’s progress and monitor their engagement?

The class teacher is able to view the completed work you ‘Turn in’ through Google Classroom. You can add comments to this work to let the teacher know how well they did or any difficulties they may have had.

Our online programmes – Get Epic, AR and TTRS have monitoring systems built into them so the teacher can see what has been completed and how they did.

How can I communicate with the class teacher?

You can add comments to the work completed in Google Classroom. For all other communication please continue to use Class Dojo.

How can I support my child to stay safe online?

A link to the ‘Think U Know’ website is pinned at the top of the class ‘Stream.’

You can also find a collection of web links to other informative sites in the Internet Safety section of our school website.

My child has additional needs – How will they be supported?

If you are already working in collaboration with our safeguarding and /or SEND teams this support will continue throughout any period of remote learning.

I’m concerned about my child’s mental health – what should I do?

If you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or well-being, please raise your concerns in the first instance with the class teacher. They will then be able to pass your concerns onto the appropriate member staff who will contact you directly.

Our remote learning includes three age-appropriate well-being activities each week.

These are themed under the headings:

  • Mindful Monday
  • Well-being Wednesday
  • Feelings Friday
