Modern Foreign Languages

Learning Journey

3 i Statement

Intent

Wynstream’s Modern Foreign Language curriculum recognises the importance of increased cultural awareness as an essential ingredient for the acquisition of cultural capital necessary for future success.

Implementation

We believe that an effective language curriculum is built upon sound phonics ; a base of vocabulary that prioritises high frequency words and then the opportunity for pupils to apply both vocabulary and newly learned grammatical concepts to a variety contexts. We understand that this kind of ‘planned revisiting’ is necessary for the transference of information from working to long term memory. As they move through KS2, children will engage with the French language in both oral and in written form. Teachers use the Languagenut scheme of learning to support the planning and delivery of weekly French lessons in Lower and Upper KS2.

Impact

The impact of our MFL curriculum will initially be measured by the increase in the quality and consistency of teaching across KS2 as well as levels of pupil enthusiasm and engagement. Ultimately, teachers will measure progress against the Wynstreams MFL curriculum Year Group endpoints. Subject leaders will routinely observe lessons as well as monitor pupil and teacher voices to ensure that our MFL curriculum is having its desired impact.
